About Us
McHenry Montessori School was established in 1996 and currently has five classrooms. We have an infant, toddler, and two-year-old room and two 3-6-year-old classrooms. We also have a before and after-school program for school-aged children. We offer a variety of programs including two or three-day-a-week schedules and preschool programs. Our full, extended-day kindergarten has proven successful and is a popular program at our school. Our nurturing staff works closely and cooperatively to live up to the high standards that we have set for our school. We truly work hard each day to make the educational learning environment one of calmness, flexibility, and dedicated support for each child. We believe in making learning fun and not a forced activity. We warmly welcome visitors and volunteers regularly. Our summer program is a full-time program that serves all ages up to age twelve and is orientated to summer themes.
We have special events, complete studies on world issues, and work with many arts and crafts.
Our Director
Ms. Lori began her Montesson career at Montessori Country Day School from 1992-1998 as a teacher's assistant while attending the College of Lake County and working on an Early Childhood Education degree. In 1998, she got married moved to McHenry, and began working at McHenry Montessori School as an infant/toddler teacher and Assistant Director. In 1999, she attended Meca-Seton Montessori Institute to obtain her Infant/Toddler Credential for Montessori and became the Director in 2000. Ms. Lori feels very fortunate to have worked with our children, families, and teachers for the past 26 years, watching everyone grow. She loves the excitement of seeing the children grow from young infants learning to crawl and grasp toys to kindergartners reading for the first time. Our program has grown and changed over the years to become the flourishing environment that it is today. Ms. Lori enjoys being here every day seeing what the children will be learning next.
Our Teachers
Our School Community and Staff: We are currently celebrating our 28th year serving McHenry area children and families! Our school is a multigenerational community with Teachers and Parents attending as children and now they work or bring their children here. The Director, Lori Lanphier is celebrating her 26th year with the program. We have low teacher turnover and our experienced teachers have dedicated themselves to attending conferences and staying up to date on developmentally appropriate curriculum. The majority of our teaching staff have worked with us 7 years or more and they have many years of experience in the early childhood educational field. We are extremely fortunate to have such an experienced team of teachers and educators at our school.
Our Mission
The Montessori Philosophy of Education is one of respect for others and the environment. We offer an individualized program of learning so that each child learns at his or her own pace. We encourage cooperation instead of competition.
We endeavor to be partners with you in the education and care of your child and look forward to having your child at McHenry Montessori School. We encourage you to be involved in your child's early learning experiences by setting up classroom observations and participating in parent nights and parent/teacher conferences.
Our experienced teachers have dedicated themselves to attending conferences and training to expand their knowledge and keep up with the ever-changing world of Montessori and Early Childhood Education. We are extremely fortunate to have such a tight-knit team of educators who are long-term. Most of our teachers are celebrating at least six years or more with our program and have years of experience working in the field.
